South Africans Are Forgiving - Dlodlo on Nkandla Judgment

Port Elizabeth - The Constitutional Court's Nkandla judgment might affect how people feel about the ANC, but South Africans are forgiving, ANC national executive committee member Ayanda Dlodlo said on Friday.
"The ConCourt might have an effect on people's morale and how they view the ANC, but I think with time some of them will taper off as we talk to people on the ground," she told reporters at a luncheon with Nelson Mandela Bay metro Mayor Danny Jordaan in Port Elizabeth.
She said ANC officials had been visiting branches and people across the country to address the matter ahead of the local government elections on August 3.
The Constitutional Court found last month that Zuma violated the Constitution when he ignored Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's remedial action to repay some of the money spent on so-called security upgrades to his private Nkandla homestead.
Following the judgment, Zuma said in a televised address he did not "knowingly or deliberately" violate the Constitution.
Calls for him to resign have increased since the judgment.
ANC leaders and many members were gathering in Nelson Mandela Bay, one of the hotly-contested metros, ahead of the party's manifesto launch on Saturday.
Dlodlo said Zuma had apologised following the Nkandla judgment and the party had accepted this. She believed the country would forgive him in time.
"South Africans are forgiving people. We have seen that before, but we do not take the electorate for granted," she said.
Jordaan told reporters there was no way the ANC was going to lose Nelson Mandela Bay on August 3.
The DA and the EFF have vowed to unseat the ANC.
"The majority of the people of this metro are saying 'this is our ANC, we love it'. The team in yellow is very strong and is dominating."
Dlodlo said the ANC was able to reflect on its mistakes and correct itself.
