THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE WELCOMES PRESIDENT ZUMA IN NELSON MANDELA BAY

PORT ELIZABETH – African National Congress (ANC) President Jacob Zuma has arrived at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium along with the ruling party’s other top five leaders.
He will spell out the governing party's plan to improve service delivery as the ANC launches its local government election manifesto in Port Elizabeth today.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is nearly half full with zealous supporters still queuing to enter the venue.
Outside, heavy security and road closures have left many struggling to get in. Performers have entertained the crowd while they wait for the launch to start.
The manifesto will be read out by President Zuma and the event will also hear messages of support from the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist Party (SACP).
‘EL ANC BRANCH SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VENTILATE GRIEVANCES’
Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle and head of the ANC in the province says a branch in East London calling on the president to step down should be allowed to ventilate their grievances.
The Beacon Bay branch has called for Zuma to step down following discussions on the implication of the Constitutional Court judgment.
Masualle says the province supports the ANC’s call for widespread discussion on the matter.
“From the beginning, you just don’t start with outlawing particular views; you allow them to find space within the discussion and we emerge with a position thereafter. We’re in a stronger, united position as a province.”
