The interview examines the crisis in Burundi and the potential for the intervention by an African Union (AU) military force to purportedly stabilize the political and security situation inside the Central African state.
Azikiwe raises questions around the potential problems associated with mobilizing and deploying an AU force in the landlocked country which emerged from a more than decade-long civil war in 2005.
Social unrest has prompted significant disaffection from the Burundian government headed by President Pierre Nkurunziza, who led a rebel army during the civil war. Controversy arose over whether the president should run for another term, his third.
The Constitutional Court in Burundi agreed with his decision to run for an additional term of office saying that the first term of office resulted from an appointment by the legislative structure.
An attempted coup earlier in 2015 was rejected by the AU and the East African Community and when the putsch failed Nkurunziza was able to return to power.
A rebel army has been announced whose aim it is to overthrow Nkurunziza from office. Attacks have been reported in the southwest and outside the capital of Bujumbura.
