President Kikwete had earlier arrived at the JNIA from Mtwara where he had gone to inspect and inaugurate development projects. The Namibian president was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Monica Geingob.

He received a 21-gun salute while the brass band played the two countries’ national anthems before he inspected a guard of honour mounted by a section of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF).

President Geingob, who stopped briefly at the Hyatt Regency Kilimanjaro Hotel, later proceeded to the State House for tète à tète and bilateral talks with his host. According to the itinerary, the visiting president was also last night honoured by a state banquet.

Today, the Namibian president is expected to hold meetings with African Heads of Mission before his departure at around 16.00hours. Meanwhile, the Namibia first Lady will today pay a courtesy call on First Lady Salma Kikwete at the Maendeleo na Wanawake (WAMA) Foundation offices at about 9am.
