The economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba remains in full force, and its extraterritorial reach, moreover, continues to worsen.

Thus states a declaration released by the National Union of Cuban Jurists (UNJC) condemning the hostile U.S. policy, emphasizing its negative impact on banking which creates obstacles to the country's development.

The document notes that recent events demonstrate a growing use of financial sanctions as a central tool of U.S. foreign policy toward any country which opposes its interests, used even against its own allies.

The organization of jurists noted that a blockade is described as a genocidal act in the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948, and an act of economic war by the 1909 London Naval Conference.

Cuba and the United States are not at war, and no military aggression against the U.S. has ever been organized or carried out from Cuban territory, not have acts of terrorism against the U.S. people been planned here, the UNJC emphasized.

The statement reads: The blockade not only violates the human rights of the Cuban people, but also the sovereign right of all countries of the world to have relations with Cuba without fear of reprisals; moreover the policy violates international law, the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, and the norms of free trade.

The UNJC reiterated its gratitude to all associations of colleagues around the world which have demanded an end to this illegal, genocidal policy, which will never prevent the Cuban people from defending their sovereignty and right to freely choose their own future.
