Independent Journalist Kevin Pina to Screen Film and Speak at MECAWI Monthly Film Series, Thursday, October 13

The Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice will host independent journalist and filmmaker Kevin Pina at its upcoming monthly film series October 13. This well-known journalist will present the Detroit premiere of "Haiti: The Untold Story"(53 mins.), a documentary film shot between January and July of 2005 and produced by the Haiti Information Project under the direction of Mr. Pina.

This film represents the most recent information on the current situation in Haiti since the United States military overthrew the former democratically elected President Jean- Bertrand Aristide, who was ousted on February 29, 2004. Aristide is currently living in exile in South Africa.Since the forced removal of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, thousand of followers of his Lavalas Family political party have been killed, forced into hiding or exile, jailed and hunted down by the US-installed government of Gerard Latorture.

All of this occurs under the watchful eyes of the "international community."United Nations forces now occupy Haiti after relieving Special Forces and military units from the U.S., France and Canada. This documentary is but a small glimpse into recent events in Haiti that tell the untold side of the story.

Kevin Pina is an independent journalist, filmmaker and Associate Editor of the Black Commentator. He is founder of the Haiti Information Project (HIP) and currently resides in Haiti. He is also special correspondent for the Pacifica radio program "Flashpoints."
