PANW Editor to Speak on Contemporary Africa and the Anti-War Movement on Saturday, February 10 at Workers World Public Meeting

On Saturday, February 10, Pan-African News Wire editor Abayomi Azikiwe will be a featured speaker at a public meeting sponsored by the Detroit offices of the Workers World newspaper.

Azikiwe, a co-founder of the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI), has been a student of African history and politics for more than three decades.

His talk will examine recent events in Somalia, where the United States government has backed and coordinated an invasion and occupation of this Horn of Africa nation. He will also speak on the ongoing conflict in the Darfur region in Sudan and the role of American and British imperialism in destabilizing this oil-rich central African state.

In addition, Azikiwe will discuss the history of the land redistribution program in Zimbabwe and why the US and the UK have waged a campaign to isolate this southern African nation.

Finally, the PANW editor will look at the two major continental organizations, the African Union, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the Pan-African Parliament, located in Midrand, South Africa and some of the challenges facing these institutions amid growing political interference by the United States.

Abayomi Azikiwe has contributed articles to the Workers World newspaper as well as dozens of other publications throughout the international community. He can be heard twice a week on radio at WDTW, 1310 AM in Detroit (Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.) as well as CKLN, 88.1 FM in Toronto (Thursdays from 9:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.).
