James Brown Laid To Rest For Now

James Brown laid to rest, for now

The body of late soul legend James Brown has been moved to a tomb at the home of one of his daughters in South Carolina, 11 weeks after he died.

His partner and children, who have been in dispute over his estate, took part in a private ceremony on Saturday with other family and close friends.

His remains are expected to be moved again once a public mausoleum is built - but the legal battle may delay that.

The Reverend Al Sharpton presided over Saturday's ceremony at the home of Deanna Brown Thomas.

The singer's partner Tomi Rae Hynie and their young son led the procession.

"James would have been very proud and happy to see that all of the family was together, and it was just beautiful," she said.

"Rev Sharpton had some very, very beautiful things to say."

Mr Sharpton said Brown's adult children did not want to wait for the legal disputes to be resolved before laying him to rest, saying they "wanted their father entombed with dignity".

Brown left "a substantial estate and substantial holdings... which are currently being disputed in court", he said.
