ANC Statement on Post Polokwane Conference Interaction With Leadership Structures

ANC STATEMENT ON POST CONFERENCE INTERACTION WITH STRUCTURES BY LEADERSHIP

4 February 2008

The national leadership of the African National Congress has been visiting structures of the organisation over the past two weeks to communicate the outcomes of the 52nd National Conference held in Polokwane last year towards the implementation of the programme of action for the year ahead.

This is in line with the conference resolution that there should be a period of renewal of the values, character and organisational practices of the ANC.

This has been led by the national Officials and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The ANC is pleased with the feedback received through these interactions.

ANC members in our structures have shown determination and enthusiasm to work with the leadership in implementing the resolutions of conference.

There is consensus at all levels of leadership and among the general membership that we need a unified ANC to be able to successfully execute the mandate of conference.

There is also an acknowledgement for an urgent need to move away from some of the undesirable developments that characterised the build-up to conference.

In this regard, the ANC reiterates once again that there is no programme to remove any ANC deployees from their positions on the basis of any views they may have held in preparation for the Polokwane Conference. The standard organisational practices with respect to deployment and redeployment will continue as normal.

Fears of a 'purge', whether actual or perceived, are without basis.

The ANC belongs to all its members equally. All members are charged with working together to build the unity of our movement and the unity of our people.

The 52nd National Conference pronounced itself clearly and unambiguously on this matter. It has set the tone, and described the line of command for all our cadres, regardless of their views, perspectives or leadership preferences.

The leadership of the ANC will continue to support all efforts aimed at building a stronger united organisation that responds to the needs of our people in pursuit of a better life for all.
