Highland Towers' Tenants Seeking to Have Power Turned on by DTE

Since August 31 the residents of Highland Towers apartments have been living without electrical power. The landlord for the building had not paid the utility bills despite these costs being included in the monthly rents.

DTE Energy shut off the power without proper notice to the tenants and has refused to turn the lights back on despite public appeals made on their behalf by the Moratorium NOW! Coalition to Stop Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility Shut-offs.

On Friday, September 11, 2009, the tenants will have a day in court to seek relief from the severe humanitarian crisis facing the people at Highland Towers.

Please join us at the hearing located in the Courtroom of Wayne County Circuit Judge MacDonald, located in 1107 Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, Woodward at Jefferson at 9:00 a.m.

Come and stand with the tenants at Highland Towers in their quest for justice.
