Seven Year Old Killed in Detroit Police Operation; Demand Attorney General Eric Holder Launches a Federal Probe Into Local Law Enforcement at the WSU Law School, 1:00pm
Ayana Jones,7, was killed by Detroit police in a raid Sunday morning at 12:35am. The young girl was shot to death while lying in her bed. The more than twenty police officers stormed the home by first tossing an incendiary device through the window. They then kicked in the doors and shot Ayana Jones in the head while her grandmother watched in horror.
This act of police terror warrants a political response by the people of the city of Detroit. The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality is demanding justice for the death of Ayana. The police officers involved should be immediately terminated and prosecuted for the crimes they have committed against the Jones family.
This killing of Ayana comes amid an escalation of violence against people in Detroit and around the country from law-enforcement agencies. In Detroit, where unemployment and poverty is the highest in the country, the political and economic elites have nothing to offer the people except increased repression and impoverishment.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will be speaking at the Wayne State University Law School at 1:00pm on Monday, May 17. We need to be there to demand justice in the death of Ayana Jones. The Detroit Police Department has been under two federal consent decrees since 2003 but nothing has changed in regard to the use of lethal force against the people.
Only the people organized and mobilized can defeat police brutality and the forces behind this intensifying terror launched against the people.
