Angola: President Dos Santos Unveils Maternal, Infant Hospital

Luanda — The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Friday in Luanda's Viana district, inaugurated the maternal and infant hospital, "Mãe Jacinta Paulino", estimated at more than USD 2.0 million.

Accompanied by the first lady, Ana Paula do Santos, the president inaugurated the hospital that employs a team of 64 staff, including four physicians. Equipped with modern means, the institution has an x-ray room and maternity, paediatric, genecology and nursing wards.

The "Mãe Jacinta Paulino" maternal and infant hospital will perform light and medium complexity surgeries. The deputy Health minister, Carlos Alrberto Masseca, said the hospital built by Eduardo dos Santos Foundation (FESA), is a conquest as it will be a response to maternal and infant mortality.

In a second phase, it will count on wards for surgery, ophthalmology, morgue and other services according to Viana district epidemiological needs. FESA, represented by its president, Ismael Diogo, handed the hospital over to the Government of Luanda province.
