KIGALI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Voters in Rwanda have elected incumbent Paul Kagame as their next president for a second term of 7 years with the 95.6 percent of the votes, the National Electoral Commission said announced on Tuesday.

Kagame, a former commander of the former rebel group, currently the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), who is described as a charismatic leader in his political party, garnered 95.6 percent of the votes, Chrysologue Karangwa, president of the National Electoral Commission said.

Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo from the Social Democratic Party took 3.2 percent of the vote while Prosper Higiro from the Liberal Party won 1.1 percent of the vote, and Alvera Mukabaramba from the Party of Progress and Concord got 0.1, according to the provisional results released by the National Electoral Commission.

Mukabaramba was the sole woman vying for the top office of the tiny central African country. "I want to consolidate the achievements made during the last years. That is what I promised, that is what we'll achieve," Kagame said to the cheers of his supporters in a biggest rally held in Kigali.
