Faith Evans to Star in Biopic of the Supremes' Florence Ballard

by VVN Music

Faith Evans, who had a ten-year string of R&B hits from 1995 to 2005, has been selected to star in Blondie – The Florence Ballard Story for Spirit of Life Films.

Based on the book The Lost Supreme by Peter Benjaminson, the film will cover Ballard's life from her joining the Supremes in 1960, her replacement by Diana Ross as lead of the group, the 1967 split from the trio and all of the travails that led up to her death at the age of 32 from a heart attack.

The casting of Faith was heavily influenced by Ballard's three daughters. In a statement, they said they "gave preference in having singer Faith Evans portray their mother. In addition to her striking resemblance, Faith Evans has had similar life success, challenges and has the natural vocal talent.”

The film will be directed by Bille Woodruff (Honey, Beauty Shop) and will be written by Karen Spencer and Roy Fegan. Filming is expected to start soon in Atlanta with a release next summer.
