Jonathan Wins Nigerian Primary Vote, Says Unofficial Results

Jonathan wins Nigerian primary vote: unofficial results

ABUJA (AFP) – Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday won the ruling party's primary ahead of April's landmark elections, unofficial results showed, handily defeating a rival from the mainly Muslim north.

With ballots counted from all but one of the country's states, Jonathan had 2,542 votes to 710 for his main opponent, ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar.

The number of votes for the final state still being counted were not nearly enough to allow Abubakar to catch up.

Votes were counted in public and unofficial totals announced for each state in the capital's Eagle Square.
