Detroit’s population has declined by 237,000 because of foreclosures and evictions.
Foreclosures, evictions and utility shutoffs are out of control. Our neighborhoods have been destroyed because of the racist and predatory lending policies of the BANKS.
These same BANKS got trillions of dollars in bailout money from the government but refuse to modify homeowners’ loans.
The BANKS continue to get paid full value for "toxic assets" when they force you from your home.
There is "no money" for schools, students or teachers while 87% of state school funds go directly to the BANKS.
Detroit casino tax revenues go directly to the BANKS.
City workers’ wages are cut and pensions threatened, libraries closed, and bus service reduced while cities pay hundreds of millions in debt service to the BANKS.
Students and youth face a bleak future of low-wage jobs even if they manage to make it through college. Student loan debt is greater than credit card debt and is a big source of profits to the BANKS.
Gov. Snyder’s Emergency Financial Managers are tools for eliminating local government and unions for direct rule by the BANKS and corporations.
In addition to the BANKS, corporations like the auto companies get bailed out so they can cut wages and benefits for workers and retirees and try to bust the unions; at the same time the Pentagon’s war budget of about $700 billion annually is untouchable.
