Six suicide bombers attacked Sunday the office of the governor of Parwan province in Afghanistan killing 25 people, including all of them, and wounding 34 civilians.
Governor Abdul Basir Salangi survived the attack that started when one of the suicide bombers detonated himself at the gate of his office in Charikar, 15 miles north of Kabul. Five other attackers wearing bomb vests then entered the compound and two of them blew themselves up inside.
Police and bodyguards of Salangi fought a running gun battle against the remaining attackers armed with grenade launchers until they were killed.
Among those killed were 14 government workers and five policemen. Three other policemen were among the wounded and the rest were civilians who were collecting their identity cards.
The attack of Salangi’s office was the second launched by the Taliban. Militants also stormed his office on June 21 killing two people.
