Vice President Joice Mujuru has said efforts to develop the economy should align with the Medium Term Plan launched recently.

Speaking to a delegation of Government and private sector representatives who went on a trip to Brazil last month who visited her home to pay their condolences following the death of her husband Retired General Solomon Mujuru, VP Mujuru said her husband's wishes were to see the economy prosper hence his death should not affect efforts to revive the economy.

"I would like to thank you for your effort in cementing the relationship between us and Brazil," she said.

"We need to see how best can we align our efforts with our Medium Term Plan for the benefit of the nation."

The MTP, launched in July, is expected to give a framework for economic development over the next five years.

VP Mujuru, whose office co-ordinated the visit to Brazil where Government, local and public companies appraised the Brazilian investors on investment opportunities in Zimbabwe, had been expected to join the delegation at the time her husband passed away.

She was scheduled to meet her counterpart, the Vice President of Brazil, Mr Michael Temer, in addition to other engagements.

Some of the meetings, however, proceeded while other delegates, including ministers of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Walter Mzembi, Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Tapiwa Mashakada returned home on learning of the untimely death of Rtd Gen Mujuru.

VP Mujuru thanked the delegation for responding to her office call to explore the Brazilian market, one of the emerging economies. She said it was also important that sectors that were key in driving the economy were represented on the trip.

The delegation to Brazil included representatives from private and public companies and statutory bodies. These included Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe, Zesa Holdings, Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Zimbabwe Investment Authority.

VP Mujuru was briefed on the outcome of meetings and it generally emerged that the Brazilians were keen to enhance trade and investment with Zimbabwe. A detailed report on the mission would be presented to her soon.

In Brazil, the delegation met the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo and discussed areas where the two countries can co-operate in trade and investment. Fespi is an organisation which represent interests of about 150 000 companies in various sectors.

This was followed by the official opening of a Trade and Tourism office in that state
The delegation also met the Chamber of Commerce of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which agreed to partner the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce on ways of enhancing trade an investment cooperation.

ZTA also successfully launched its new brand, "Zimbabwe, World of Wonders" in Brasilia, its capital city and Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest state.
