Eight members of a family have been killed in an airstrike by the US-led NATO coalition in eastern Afghanistan, according to Afghan authorities.
The strike took place in the Gerda Serai district of Paktai late on Saturday, the provincial governor’s spokesman, Rohullah Samon, said as foreign and Afghan security forces try to quell Taliban and Haqqani network insurgents active in the area.
Provincial spokesman Rohullah Samon said Sunday that a man, woman and their six children were killed in a coalition airstrike 8 p.m. in Suri Khail village of Gurda Saria district.
The coalition says it is aware of the allegation and is looking into what happened late on Saturday in Paktia province.
This comes as local officials earlier said at least 20 militants were killed following the air raid, however, Taliban militants group denied the reports and said none of their fighters were killed or injured.
