Libyan Journalists Freed After Abduction

TRIPOLI, Libya -- A local Libyan TV station manager says two of his journalists have been freed after more than a week being held captive by militiamen from a onetime stronghold of ousted ruler Moammar Gadhafi.

Omar Boghada of Misrata's TV station says the two journalists, held for 10 days by militiamen from the town of Bani Walid, have returned home. The two were covering the country's general election 10 days ago when they were snatched on their way back to Misrata.

Their release defuses tension that could have turned into a battle between Bani Walid and the city of Misrata, whose militiamen deployed forces, threatening to launch an offensive.

Bani Walid and Misrata had a history of enmity under Gadhafi's 42-year leadership.
