Car bomb rocks Tripoli, first such attack in Libyan capital since uprising began

A car bomb has exploded in Libya's capital, Tripoli, in the first such attack since the start of a revolt that toppled the government of Muammar al-Gaddafi.

A Reuters source said that a Tunisian national was slightly wounded in the blast, which comes after several violent incidents in recent days.

Most incidents have been confined to the eastern part of the country, in the northeastern city of Benghazi — the cradle of the revolt that toppled Gaddafi — according to Russian news agency RBC.

The attacks have targeted the offices of military intelligence, with one former senior military officer assassinated.

Khaled Haidar, spokesman for the director of national security in Benghazi, told Agence France-Presse this week that attacks included a bomb planted outside Benghazi's iconic Tibesti hotel on Sunday that was ultimately defused.

Also, a hand grenade was thrown at the appeals court while a rocket breached the outside wall of the main prison.

And on Friday, security forces defused two bombs with timers planted by the office of national security in Benghazi.
