AMISOM to Take Over Kismayo Security

SOMALIA: Amisom to take over Kismayo security, night curfew starts

Mogadishu (RBC) The spokesman of the African Union forces in Somalia [AMISOM], Col Ali Aden Humud has said that AMISOM troops will take over the security of the recently liberated town of Kismayo as growing insecurity activities continue in that town.

Col Humud told reporters today in Mogadishu that Amisom will maintain the security responsibility of the whole Kismayo town as he rebuffs that Kenyan forces now controlling that town were not under Amisom command.

“I do not know what you [journalists] cal the KDF. I know Kismayo is under the control of AMISOM troops and we are those to deal with every insecurity activities in that area” Col Humud told the reporters in a press conference in Mogadishu.

Col Humud also mentioned that the African Union forces under their new mandate now initiated to launch training program for the Somali Police Forces in order to be capable to handle the security of the capital.

Kismayo town has been experiencing assassination killings and bomb explosions targeted against the bases of the Kenyan and Somali forces in the town. Also several civilians including elders were shot dead this week.

“We are now undergoing a new training program for 40 of the Somali Police Forces. this is the start and as far as we finish we will launch the second phase” The spokesman Col Humud who hails from Djibouti says.

The comment from Col Ali Aden Humud amid growing insecurity activities were occurring in the Kismayo town of Somalia’s Lower Jubba region. Meanwhile many Somalis were yet questioning whether the Kenyan forces were under the real command of AMISOM because of their unknown operations and by siding with local clan militias.

On the other hand, the joint forces in Kismayo town have today imposed the first night curfew banning the movements of the local people as well the vehicles in the town.
