At least 16 Syrian civilians have been injured in twin bomb explosions in the capital, Damascus, as insurgents continue their deadly attacks.

The two bombs went off within minutes of each other near al-Zahera Park in Damascus on Friday, Syria's official news agency, SANA, reported.

An initial blast drew in onlookers, who were hit by a second explosion moments later. A nurse and an ambulance driver are reported to be among the injured.

Syrian sources have blamed insurgents fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad for the attack. The bombings come as insurgents have been blamed for committing war crimes by executing soldiers after seizing army checkpoints in Idlib on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Army has seized a large amount of weapons and ammunition, including machine guns, sniper rifles and grenades, from foreign-backed insurgents in Hama. They also defused an explosive device, which was planted by terrorist groups on al-Skelbeyh-Mharda road in Hama.

Syrian troops also clashed with armed groups in Dara'a and Dayr al-Zawr, killing and wounding a number of terrorists.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the violence.

Syria accuses Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey as well as some Western countries for fanning the flames of violence in the country.
