ANC Youth League Statement on Israeli Aggregation in Gaza

ANCYL statement on Israeli aggregation in Gaza

18 November 2012

The ANC Youth League condemns the latest Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip that has seen the massacre of Palestinians en masse on November 14th. Ahead of the scheduled January 2013 elections in Israel, we note with concern the underhand tactics that the Israeli government is employing in a bid to hoodwink the Israeli electorate into thinking that theirs is a quest against terrorism. We know very well that this is a criminal attack against the besieged people of Palestine. The ANCYL reiterates that this aggression has nothing to do with security, but a lot do with denying the Palestinian people their inalienable right to self-determination.

Despite Israel`s efforts to deter the Palestinian people`s UN 194 bid to become full members of the United Nations and accordingly, a recognized state, the Palestinian people remain committed to the path towards national unity, liberation and the quest for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace. Israel, on the other hand, has brought immeasurable pain and suffering to Palestinians since it occupied all the Palestinian land in 1967. In the 45 years since occupation, Israel`s policies have been based on military zones, expropriation of land, siege around Gaza in the west bank, demolition of houses, settlements and a separation wall that chokes Palestine.

The ANC Youth League believes the Palestine Liberation Organization`s initiative to enhance Palestine`s status in the United Nations is a positive and important political step that will get Palestine closer to freedom and ensure that Palestinians enjoy a life of prosperity, progress and dignity. The ANC Youth League copiously endorses this bid as other progressive organizations around the world.
