Somalia: President Hassan on state visit to Sudan
KHARTOUM, Somalia Jan. 1, 2013 (Garowe Online) - Somalia 's president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, where he was warmly received by Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, Garowe Online reports.
President Hassan was officially invited by the Sudanese leader to attend the 57th anniversary of Sudan’s independence from European colonialism, being celebrated in Khartoum.
The Somali president was received at the Khartoum airport by Sudanese President Al-Bashir and was saluted by a guard of honor.
President Hassan 's official trip to Sudan is part of ongoing trips to East African countries, including recent visits to Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, and Ethiopia, as all four countries are IGAD member states and have their forces deployed inside Somalia. President Hassan has also visited Turkey on a state visit since his election in September 2012.
It is not clear whether or not President Hassan will hold discussions with the Sudanese leadership regarding the status of printed new Somali Shillings banknotes ordered by the former Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia, the administration that preceded President Hassan.
Shilling banknotes currently in Somali markets incl ude banknotes from the 1 980s and illegally printed banknotes and Somali s have called for new banknotes to replace the uncontrol lable old ba nknotes.
