This year's African Union's (AU) 21st Summit concluded on May 27 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This summit was commemorating the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the predecessor of the AU, formed in 2002.

An upcoming election in the Southern African nation of Zimbabwe has gained the approval of the regional Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The legislative bodies in Zimbabwe have approved unanimously a new constitution and elections could be held as early as July.

There have been renewed attacks on the border between Somalia and Kenya. Reports indicate that at least five people have been killed in the renewed attacks which have been attributed to the Al-Shabaab resistance organization.

Finally, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Colombian government have agreed upon an agrarian reform program for this South American nation. The talks on the future of Colombia are being held in Havana, Cuba with full backing of the Communist Party government.
