The African Union is meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for its 21st Summit commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The Summit has prompted commentaries and analyzes from throughout Africa and the world.

Rebellions have continued in the Nordic European nation of Sweden where youth have set fires and targeted police in several major cities around the country. The ongoing national discriminatory policies by the government and the ruling class has been noted as the root cause of the unrest.

The Syrian Minister of Information has criticized the Arab League for what he described as the negative role the grouping is playing in the internal conflict inside his country. Meanwhile, President Rafael Correa of Ecuador has expressed his government's solidarity with the Syrian people. Syria has been subjected to a United States-NATO sponsored war of destabilization and regime-change for over two years.

Finally, the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party of South Africa, has said the coming ten years will be the "Decade of the Cadre." General Secretary Gwede Mantashe says that the party must revitalize the cadre-building process to ensure the longevity of the organization.

Also this edition features excerpts from speeches by Malcolm X on the African American solidarity struggle with the African continent. May 19 represented the 88th anniversary of the birth of El Hajj Malik Shabazz (Malcolm X).
