The United States has been exposed for carrying out “the most massive surveillance program in human history,” Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of Pan-African News Wire said in an interview.

Azikiwe said that the National Security Agency’s internet and phone surveillance programs have not only violated the privacy rights of American citizens but also people around the world.

“What is needed inside the United States at this point is a massive outcry on part of the people, denouncing this form of intelligence abuse of citizens who have committed no crimes, who are suspected of committing no crimes, and also the interference in the internal affairs of various organizations even within the U.S. government itself.”

He said the NSA denies any wrongdoing in its surveillance programs, but at the same time intends to prosecute Edward Snowden for leaking its secret documents.

Azikiwe criticized the Obama administration for being the “toughest” to crack down on whistleblowers.

On the use of drones for surveillance purposes inside the United States, Azikiwe said, “They are not only being used by federal intelligence authorities, but they are also being used apparently by local law enforcement agencies as well in various states, counties and municipalities.”

Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently admitted that the agency uses drones in domestic spying operations.
