In preparations for national elections in the Southern African nation of Zimbabwe, the country has dissolved parliament and is being run through presidential decree. This statement was made by the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs,Mr. Patrick Chinamasa, as he outlined the processes leading up to the national elections.
The Vice President of South Sudan is visiting the capital of the Republic of Sudan in Khartoum for high-level talks with the government of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. The two nations are attempting to work out differences over border demarcations, the use of oil and security issues.
Dozens are feared dead in new clashes around the southern Somalia port city of Kismayo. Also reports have surfaced indicating that two commanders from the Al-Shabab Islamic resistance organization have been killed in an international dispute.
Finally, demonstrations against Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi have been held in the North African state of Egypt. Protesters are calling for early elections saying that Morsi has failed to develop the country since taking office a year ago.
