PREPARATIONS for the Heroes Day and Defence Force Day commemorations are now at an advanced stage, with the provincial mobilisation committee announcing on Tuesday that it has prepared a US$60 000 budget for the two events. Heroes Day would be marked on August 11 throughout the country, with the main function at the National Heroes

Acre, while the Defence Forces Day would be on August 12, with the main celebrations at the National Sports Stadium.

Harare provincial administrator Mr Alfred Tome said on Tuesday at least 40 buses would be hired to ferry people to the respective places in Harare.

“The provincial mobilisation committee for all State functions is available for the two events and the preparations are at an advanced stage and everything is on course and going on very well,” he said.

“We are expecting 40 buses that we have budget for to help ferry people to the National Sports Stadium and the National Heroes Acre and we are appealing to other well wishers to provide with transport so that everyone will have the opportunity to commemorate the days.”

Mr Tome said they would hold a function for widows at Belvedere Teachers College in Harare on Heroes Day.

“We want to mobilise resources to assist the widows, especially on the Heroes Day, showing our love to them as citizens of Zimbabwe,” he said.
