THE Zanu-PF National Elections Directorate is basking in glory after superintending and delivering a resounding victory to the revolutionary party, leaving the opposition voice insignificant in the governance of the country. President Mugabe won the presidential race with over 61 percent, while MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai managed about 34 percent, with MDC frontman Professor Welshman Ncube coming a distant third with almost 3 percent.
Zapu leader Dr Dumiso Dabengwa and Zimbabwe Development Party leader Mr Kisinoti Mukwazhe got 0,74 and 0,29 percent respectively.
The revolutionary party exceeded the majority threshold of 140 by bagging 160 seats in a 210 National Assembly contest, with MDC-T managing a paltry 49 seats.
Mr Jonathan Samkange who stood as an independent candidate after failing to qualify at the Zanu-PF primary elections won the other seat after standing as an independent.
Addressing members of the team, National Elections Directorate chairperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo hailed their performance that ensured a resounding victory. He commended provincial elections directorates, party structures and the whole membership for achieving the victory.
“We meet today in a very exciting and celebratory circumstances,” said Khaya Moyo. “This is the moment of truth. Reality has taken centre stage and illusions from the opposition are fast evaporating. We are back to 1980 and Zanu-PF as the liberator and revolutionary party is on an unstoppable crusade – the march to total economic emancipation of our people.
“You have made it. The people of Zimbabwe have spoken loud and clear. In Latin they say ‘vox populi, vox dei’ which means that the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said President Mugabe had been elected by the people and thus glory must be given to God.
By delivering such a stunning victory, Cde Khaya Moyo said the revolutionary party demonstrated its invincibility, leaving detractors in disarray as they “cannot fanthom what has hit them”.
“We obviously await the inauguration of our President, Cde RG Mugabe – a man of destiny,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
He said 31 July was a moment of truth for Zimbabweans to bury the MDC formations and shame the country’s detractors. Cde Khaya Moyo said long before the proclamation of the election date by President Robert Mugabe as per the ruling by the Constitutional Court, the Zanu-PF machinery was already in gear.
