There has been a split from the ruling Sudanese National Congress Party led by President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. Three so-called reformers have resigned after being reportedly threatened with expulsion for signing a memorandum criticizing the government's handling of recent unrest over the withdrawal of fuel subsidies.
The military forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that the army has retaken control of the town of Kibumba in the east of the vast country just 30 kilometers from the provincial capital of Goma. The government has been battling the M23 rebel movement over their involvement in the mineral rich region of the central African state.
In Washington, D.C. thousands have joined a demonstration against the spying carried out by the National Security Agency (NSA).
Protesters held signs saying "stop mass surveillance", "no secret courts" and chanting slogans to abolish the Patriotic Act.
Finally, the French imperialist government under Francois Hollande has ordered another offensive operation in the northern regions of the West African state of Mali.
Despite France's claim that Islamist guerrillas operating in the north had been defeated after Paris' invasion in January, the armed groups have launched an offensive against French, Malian and United Nations troops.
