A bomb blast has occurred in the Somalia city Beledwayene killing at least 16 people and wounding others. Somalia was the scene of a failed United States military operation on October 5 where a team of Navy Seals were repelled by Al-Shabaab fighters in Baraawe.
In the West African state of Guinea the ruling Rally of the Guinean People have won a majority in parliament in national elections. Nonetheless, opposition parties which won 53 seats described official results as "unrealistic."
Tullow Oil is one of the major corporations involved in a new round of oil exploration and exploitation in West Africa. Large discoveries of oil have occurred in Ghana and other regional states.
Finally, several East African states have agreed to develop a so-called counter-terrorism strategy. It will remain to be seen how U.S. imperialism and NATO will impact these regional efforts.
The second half of this broadcast pays tribute to the thirtieth anniversary of the assassination of former Grenadian Prime Minister Maurice Bishop in 1983. Another tribute is paid to the 47th anniversary of the formation of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in Oakland, California in 1966.
