A new poll has shown that 59 percent of the American people are somehow disappointed or very disappointed in Barack Obama’s presidency.

The survey by CBS News and the New York Times also shows that 51 percent of Americans disapprove of Obama’s performance, up four points from last month.

Most of the disappointed are Republicans (91 percent) and independents (66 percent) as about 24 percent of Democrats have expressed at least some disappointment.

Forty percent of Americans say they are satisfied with Obama's presidency.

The poll also shows that Republicans have the upper hand ahead of the mid-term elections in November.

Obama’s image is believed to have been tarnished by the troubled launch of his key healthcare law and the US economy’s sluggish recovery.

The president has had to apologize to people who lost their healthcare plans because of his healthcare law.

“I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said in November 2013.

Republicans criticized the Obama administration after a disappointing report showed the US economy added only 113,000 jobs in January as they blamed the sluggish job growth on Obamacare, arguing Obama’s signature health care law and other White House policies are dragging back the economy.
