The country’s new economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset), is aimed at creating a self-sufficient economy, Vice-President Joice Mujuru has said.

Officially opening a Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting here yesterday, Cde Mujuru hailed Zim Asset as the panacea to the nation’s economic challenges.

“The positive impact of Zim Asset must be felt, starting from the household level because this is a programme that is being implemented by the people’s party. Zanu-PF’s rule and the programme cannot be separated,” she said.

Cde Mujuru added that Zim Asset was crafted as a response to the people’s challenges.

“This policy is meant to benefit all Zimbabweans as it touches on all essential facets of the society,” she said.

Cde Mujuru highlighted that unity is critical for the successful implementation of ZimAsset, which is expected to restore the country’s economic fortunes.

She urged the PCC to initiate awareness programmes aimed at making people understand what ZimAsset entails.

“Political leaders must not only go to the people when canvassing for support during election time,” she said.

“If I had the opportunity to knock on each individual’s door, I would do it right now so that the lost sheep can appreciate the goodness of the revolutionary party through the cake of the nation (ZimAsset),” she said.

In his remarks, Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Cde Luke Mushore said unity of purpose now prevails in the province in the aftermath of the hotly contested elections which ushered his executive into office in November last year.

The co-ordination committee meeting was also attended by Politburo members Cdes Nicholas Goche, Saviour Kasukuwere, Alice Chimbudzi and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for the province, Advocate Martin Dinha.
