Fresh violence erupts in Central African Republic

At least 15 people have been killed in a fresh eruption of violence between Christians and Muslims in the Central African Republic.
Thousands have died since the mostly Muslim Seleka rebels seized power a year ago and launched a campaign of terror.
France has deployed some 2,000 peacekeepers but they have been unable to prevent the deadly fighting and violence.
Henry Babila, head of Swiss non-governmental organisation FairMed, lamented: “It’s a situation never seen before. A country which can no longer provide health, education and other services. It is indescribable. Now, the entire country is in the hands of NGOs. Public employees haven’t been paid for six months. The economic system has completely collapsed.”
The United Nations estimates some 650,000 people have been displaced within the Central African Republic, while nearly 300,000 have fled to neighbouring states.
