Malan and Verwoerd Are Alive in the Opposition DA in South Africa

Malan and Verwoerd are alive in the DA

27 February 2014

The SACP in the Western Cape condemned in strongest terms the deprivation of the people of the Western Cape by the resurgence of apartheid policies by the DA government. Indeed, the true ideological colours of DA are becoming more visible, as its leaders try in pain to project it in a positive light.

We have learnt with disgust the deprivation of the people of Khayelitsha of their right to “assembly, demonstration, picketing and petition” as enshrined in our hard won constitution. This reminds us of the Verwoerd style of governance when we see public institutions being used to suppress the expression of our people to voice their frustrations about the deploring conditions they are subjected to by the Western Cape government under the yoke of the DA.

The DA has once more used the City of Cape Town in its dirty tactics to hide its dismal failure in the provision of services. This is a wakeup call for all democrats to stand against this anarchy. The working class communities who were denied a right to march by the City of Cape Town are not criminals but they are just yearning for their voices to be heard by those who are riding the high horses.

We urge all citizens of Western Cape to stand up and protect what the likes of Chris Hani and other revolutionaries stood for. This is a cause that our great leader of our revolution, comrade Nelson Mandela sacrificed his entire life for. Helen Zille’s attitude that “there is no government that can provide better services" is a direct attack also to the National Democratic Revolution, hence the Western Cape government has been privatised and run by consultants who rake the profits to the detriment of the downtrodden.

If Helen Zille accepts that she can`t provide better service to the poor, we should collectively join hands and topple her from the high horse through ballot and other democratic practices. As the SACP we have no doubt that these struggles talk to the core ideology of DA, which subordinates human needs over profit maximisation. We maintain that Western Cape is a better administration without DA and call upon all our citizens to stand up and practice the democratic rights against this autocratic administration.
