Lupita Nyong’o is on a non-stop bullet train to the top.

The Kenyan-Mexican actress, who was catapulted to stardom after playing the role of Patsey in Steve McQueen’s award-winning biopic 12 Years A Slave, is celebrating yet another career first: scoring the cover of Vogue.

Yesterday, Vogue Magazine confirmed that Nyong’o is indeed their July cover girl.

It’s one of several professional milestones that Nyong’o can check off her list.

This March, the 31-year-old won her first Academy Award for best actress in a supporting role in 12 Years A Slave. A month later, the star was made the first black ambassador for the French cosmetics brand Lancôme, TIME reports.

But it’s not the first time that the Yale-educated actress has graced the front of a magazine: People Magazine awarded her the title of Most Beautiful Woman in the World this April.

Nyong’o is the second African woman and ninth black woman to be immortalized on the glossy fashion magazine. She follows in the footsteps of Ethiopian-born supermodel Liya Kebede and actresses Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson, IndieWire reports.

For the Vogue shoot, Nyong`o wore a fuchsia art deco print dress from Prada. That`s the same fashion house that helped make her an international darling at the Oscars earlier this year; the custom pale blue Grecian Prada dress that she wore on the red carpet received best-dressed accolades worldwide.

Nyong’o announced the news on Instagram yesterday by posting a red, yellow and blue triptych of her face stamped with the word VOGUE and writing, “This Summer, I am totally COVERED!”

The star appeared in the Liam Neeson thriller Non-Stop this spring and is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VII and a drama called Southpaw alongside Rachel McAdams and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Nyong’o told Vogue that she is dating the Somali-Canadian rapper K`naan.
