This program features its regular segment of the Pan-African News Wire where the current situation in Iraq is examined. United States President Barack Obama declared on June 19 that he was deploying 300 military advisers to the country where reportedly several Sunni-based armed groups have taken control over numerous cities throughout the west of the Middle Eastern state.

The corporate and government-controlled media outlets in the U.S. and Western Europe have been covering the security crisis in Iraq extensively. Yet their reporting attempts to cover up the role of the imperialist states, led by the U.S., in the destruction of Iraq.

It was Washington acting on behalf of Wall Street and big oil that stoked the flames of sectarianism, division and internecine warfare in Iraq as well as Syria, Lebanon and Iran. At present the role of the armed groups seems to be aimed at weakening the alliance between Hizbollah, the Syrian government and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Due to the U.S.-imposed United Nations sanctions and war policies against Iraq between 1990 and 2003 over a million people died. The invasion of Kuwait and Iraq in early 1991 resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Arab people in the region.

When the U.S. led an invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the stage was set for the further destruction and dismemberment of the oil-rich country. Today with the Iraqi state weakened and fragmented the U.S. is using the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) after its efforts along with others have failed in neighboring Syria.
