South African Communist Party North West PEC Statement

The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the SACP in the North West province convened in Matlosana to reflect on the current political developments. The meeting also conducted a thorough organizational assessment.
The PEC congratulated the President of the ANC, His Excellency Honorable Jacob Zuma for being re-elected for his second term as the leader of the 5th administration of the Republic of South Africa. We are confident that our country is in safe hands. The PEC also extended a message of congratulations to all those, who were appointed to the executive. We expect a lot from them and have the confidence in their abilities and experience.
The SACP in the province also welcomed the appointment of comrade Supra Obakeng Mahumapelo as the new Premier of the North West province. We wish him and his administration well and are confident that the province will turn a new page under his leadership. This will also bring about stability and unity in the movement at a provincial level.
The PEC called upon all cadres of the ANC, the alliance partners and other stakeholders in the province to support the efforts of unifying our province behind the current leadership. The party will work closely with the Premier in his capacity as ANC Provincial Chairperson to rebuild, renew and reposition our movement with the view to healing the deep rooted divisions in the province.
Our assessment of the outcomes of the elections points to some concerning decreases in the number of people who voted for the ANC in the province. We shall be working hard to rectify all of the identified problems and responding more urgently to the concerns of the workers. We shall be holding a bilateral meeting with the ANC to further discuss these challenges and the way forward in preparation for the 2016 local government elections.
We shall be rolling out our "Know Your Neighborhood" campaign in June, this to continue the work that was started during the last national election campaign. Working with our alliance partners, we shall follow through on the challenges affecting our communities and together ensure that those challenges are resolved.
Miners Strike
The situation in the platinum belt is deeply concerning and needs urgent intervention. We call on the mining bosses to give workers what is due to them and also consider the harmful economic implications caused by the bosses` intransigence. Workers should also realize that AMCU`s Mathunjwa has led them astray and cares very little about their livelihoods. They should return to the NUM and rebuild that glorious union in the province. We also call on the South African Police Services to protect the right of all citizens in the area especially the right to life and safety.
The SACP shall be approaching the Premier to discuss the establishment of the Mining Growth and Development Commission which should be constituted by all stakeholders. The commission must amongst other things look into the challenges facing the mining industry including the economic development of the mining communities. We will also present the integration of mine workers in and around the platinum belt into the broader society since the current arrangement contributes to undesirable social outcomes.
We reiterate the fact that the enemy of our people is capitalist exploitation which is the cause poverty, inequality and unemployment. Together we must move South Africa forward in confronting the enemy and not only focus on the effects of his work.
