The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is ready to send humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s relentless attack against the coastal sliver, a senior Iranian lawmaker says.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee at Iran’s Majlis, said IRCS chief Mohammad Farhadi has expressed readiness to send relief aid to Gaza during a meeting with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and the ambassadors of Islamic countries to Tehran.

Boroujerdi added that during the meeting it was agreed that the Egyptian envoy to Tehran would coordinate the necessary measures to dispatch Iran's aid to the Gaza Strip via Egypt.

Earlier, Iranian Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi said that Iran is fully prepared to provide emergency equipment and medical supplies for the Gazans wounded in Israel’s fatal assaults.

Hospitals in Gaza are in desperate need of help, including medicines and equipment. Israel imposed an all-out land, aerial, and naval blockade on Gaza in June 2007. The siege has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the impoverished enclave.

Israel’s offensive against the besieged Gaza Strip has been going on since July 8.

The death toll from the Israeli strikes has risen to at least 260 people. About a third of the fatalities have been women and children. Nearly 2,000 others have been injured.

The Israeli regime also launched a ground invasion of the blockaded enclave late on Thursday.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said Israel would pay a “high price” for the ground invasion.
