Rwanda Replaces Peacekeepers For Haiti
TVC NEWS [KIGALI]-- Rwandan government is sending no fewer than 140 police officers to Haiti as peacekeepers as the current contingent of the same number is completing its one-year mandate, said the National Police on Monday.
TVC NEWS gathered this is the fifth rotation since Rwanda started to deploy peacekeepers to the Caribbean nation following the 2010 devastating earthquake that wrecked the country.
At the UN's request, the National Police is also scheduled to dispatch a contingent each to South Sudan and the Central African Republic before the end of this year.
Rwanda's police peacekeeping operations started in 2005 and over 2,000 police officers have served in various missions.
It currently has about 600 police officers in eight peacekeeping missions in Mali, Sudan, South Sudan and some other countries.
