Somalia: Allied forces, Al Shabaab Clash in Deadly Battle Near Qoryoley

QORYOLEY, Somalia

(Garowe Online)-Fierce fighting raged between Somali government forces aided by African Union Mission in Somalia(AMISOM) peacekeepers and Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants overnight on Tuesday near Lower Shabelle regional district of Qoryoley of southern Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

Local reports say, the clashes erupted after armed militants attacked army bases, resulting in fatalities.

Qoryoley Mayor Mohamed Haji Osman said on Mogadishu-based radio station that they inflicted heavy losses on Al Shabaab attackers.

The fighting affected Maanyo-Mudug and Abdi Ali areas, with witnesses reporting that five dead bodies from the opposing sides were lying on the scene of clashes.

Al Shabaab reverted to guerilla warfare and boosted up deadly rampage during the holy month of Ramadan.
