SERGIO G. GALLO
The relations between China and Cuba are an example of cooperation between nations in the sphere of development and strengthening of such links is one of China’s key foreign policy priorities, stated Chinese ambassador Zhang Tuo, on October 1, during the ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
During the event, presided over by First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel, Tuo recalled that Cuba was the first nation in the Americas to establish diplomatic relations with China in 1960.
In his speech he emphasized that the links between both peoples, parties and governments, have stood the test of time, adding that Cuba and China learn from each other’s unique experiences in the construction of socialism.
He also stated that under the leadership of the PCC, the updating of the country economic model is currently underway, highlighting its achievements made to date.
In his closing speech Ricardo Cabrisas, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, stated that relations between the two nations are currently at the highest point in their history.
Cabrisas added that President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to the island in July, during which important agreements were signed, signals a new stage in cooperation and contributes to strengthening bilateral relations.
Senior Cuban government, Party and Armed Forces officials, as well as members of the accredited diplomatic body in Havana, also attended the ceremony, held in the FAR Universal Hall and during which Camerata Romeu – the first female string orchestra in Latin America and in the World - performed.
