Two men from Beheira in the Nile Delta have been arrested for allegedly using Facebook to incite violence against the security forces
Two men have been arrested for allegedly using Facebook to incite violence against the police and army, an interior ministry official has said.
A 20-year-old Al-Azhar University student from Beheira governorate was detained for allegedly running several pro-Muslim Brotherhood Facebook pages, including 'AmnagytDamnhur'which shares personal details of police officers and calls for protests.
Police confiscated a laptop, server, router, two mobile phones and 20 Muslim Brotherhood pins.
A second student from Beheira governorate was detained for allegedly running several pro-Brotherhood Facebook pages which incite violence against the armed forces and police, and publishing personal details of police officers and governmental officials.
The Muslim Brotherhood was officially designated a terrorist organisation in December 2013.
The interior ministry has begun arresting people for allegedly using social media websites to incite violence against the police or other state officials.
Last week, a 35-year-old woman was also arrested for allegedly running a Facebook pagethat called on people to "disrupt national security" and attack government installations, banks, police vehicles and other public property.
After news leaked in June about interior ministry plans to monitor Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the interior minister insisted this would not interfere with liberties and freedom of expression.
