Troops Kill 123 Boko Haram Terrorists

The Cameroonian Foreign Minister, Isaa Chirooma Bakary, has said that following “coordinated aerial and ground operations” with the Nigerian troops in the Lake Chad Basin areas, 123 Boko Haram members were killed at Fotokol.
He said the fighting took place on Thursday and in the early hours of Friday.
The battle ensued while the insurgents were crossing the border to flee two occupied Nigerian border towns. The troops however lost three soldiers during the offensive. Fotokol is a Cameroonian border town with Nigeria, 45 kilometers west of Gambouru. A fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles and rifles belonging to the terrorists, according to him, were also destroyed, while the insurgents were fleeing to cross into the Cameroonian border town of Fotokol. Bakary disclosed these Saturday in a special Hausa service of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), monitored in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. He said the two-day coordinated military operations, were successfully executed to prevent the insurgents from attacking Cameroonian border towns and villages in the North. His words: “Our soldiers succeeded in preventing the terrorists from causing more havoc to both lives and property on our soil, as they had early this month and December last year killed many of our citizens, including some of our military personnel and local hunters. But yesterday (Friday), our security personnel dealt severely with them.”
Our correspondent also learnt that the Chadian military last Thursday reclaimed Mallam Fatori, the council headquarters of Abadam Local Government area of Borno State. It was, however, not clear, whether the recapturing of the Lake Chad Shore township was also coordinated with the Nigerian military, as the Defence Headquarters was yet to respond to the reclaim of Mallam Fotori. Other captured towns of Baga, Monguno, Dikwa, Marte, Bama, Gwoza and Damasak, a border town with Niger Republic, are, however still under the control of the insurgents, having captured the territories between August and December last year.
