A senior Iranian commander says the country’s domestically-built Bavar-373 air defense system would be ready for deployment by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 19, 2016).
Commander of the Iranian Army's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili made the announcement about the system, which is already under development, among reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.
Bavar-373 air defense system was successfully test-fired last August.
The long-range system, which is similar to the Russian S-300, has been manufactured by Iranian defense experts and is capable of hitting air targets at a high altitude.
Esmaili also told IRNA that Iran has successfully tested the domestically-built Talaash (endeavor) air defense system at medium latitude.
The missiles of Talaash air defense system were showcased during massive parades on the National Army Day on April 18, the Iranian commander said.
“We seek to complete the Talaash air defense system with [a range of] ultra-high altitude next year,” the commander said.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and reached self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
Iran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, insisting that its defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
Russia to seek removal of arms embargo against Iran in nuclear talks

Moscow will urge the lifting of an arms embargo against Iran during Friday’s talks over Tehran’s nuclear program, the Russian deputy foreign minister says.
Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Thursday that one of the priorities in Iran’s nuclear talks is to ensure that all participants in the negotiations "recognize the foremost need to cancel the existing weapons embargo against Iran,” Russia’s news agency Tass reported.
He also stressed the UN Security Council’s exclusive role in bringing back sanctions against Tehran if the Islamic Republic fails to fulfill its commitments.
The Russian diplomat’s remarks come as representatives from Iran and the P5+1 group of countries are to resume intensive talks over Tehran’s nuclear program in the Austrian city of Vienna on Friday.
The two sides kicked off the latest round of negotiations aimed at drafting a final nuclear accord on Wednesday with a bilateral meeting between Iran and the European Union.
Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, who leads the Iranian negotiating delegation, said on Wednesday that the issue of anti-Iran sanctions is among the key topics on the agenda of this round of talks.
Iran and the P5+1 - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain, and Germany – reached a mutual understanding on the parameters of a comprehensive agreement over Iran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.
Following the mutual understanding, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a decision to lift a 2010 ban on the delivery of S-300 missile systems to Tehran.
The ban had been imposed on Iran under the pretext that an agreement signed between Tehran and Moscow in 2007 on the shipment of the systems was covered by the fourth round of the United Nations Security Council sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
