Los Angeles County Public Housing Agency, 2 Cities Settle Discrimination Case With Feds

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County public housing agency and two Mojave Desert cities have settled allegations that they discriminated against black people by discouraging them from living in certain areas.
The Department of Justice announced the $2 million settlement Monday with the Housing Authority of Los Angeles County and the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale.
Between 2004 and 2011, the Justice Department says, the cities teamed up with the housing agency and the Sheriff's Department for a targeted campaign of discriminatory enforcement against black people who used public housing vouchers.
The housing authority says it has changed its enforcement program and is dedicated to ensuring safe quality housing.
In April, the Sheriff's Department reached a $700,000 settlement for unconstitutional stops and excessive force against blacks and Hispanics in Palmdale and Lancaster.
