70th Anniversary of National Liberation Celebrated in DPRK
Celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the country’s liberation were held in a grand style in the capital city and provinces of the DPRK.

The  service  personnel  of  the  Korean  People’s  Army  and  the  Korean  People’s  Internal Security Forces  and  working  people  from all walks of life visited the  statues  of  President Kim  Il  Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in different parts of Pyongyang including Mansu Hill and local areas to pay tribute to them.

On August 15 senior officials of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the state, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, KPA service personnel and people of all social standings visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and paid homage to the great leaders. The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun was also visited by foreign diplomatic envoys, representatives of international organizations and military attaches of foreign embassies in the DPRK, delegations of the Russian Federation Council and the Russian Ministry of Defence, a delegation of Korean residents in Japan, a delegation of General Association of Koreans in China, a delegation of the Joint Secretariat of Pan-National Alliance for Korea’s Reunification, and foreign guests and overseas Koreans who joined the international solidarity functions and national reunification rally held in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the country’s liberation wreaths were laid before the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong, the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery, the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery, the Liberation Tower and the cemetery of the Soviet Army martyrs in Sadong District.

A national meeting was held at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on August 14.

A national symposium took place to make a deep study of and add glory to the immortal exploits President Kim Il Sung performed in leading the anti-Japanese war to victory and the glorious traditions of the WPK.

A film show and a national fine arts exhibition were also held.

Meanwhile, a photo exhibition of the great Paektu mountains was held by the co-sponsorship of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the DPRK-New Zealand Friendship Association, and a DPRK-Russia stamp exhibition opened under the co-sponsorship of the Philatelists Union of Korea and the Russian National Philatelists Academy.

A banquet was given at the People’s Palace of Culture.

A national reunification conference was held. During the conference a starting ceremony of grand march for the independent reunification of Korea took place on Mt. Paektu. A gathering for Korea’s peace and reunification and an oath-taking meeting for the independent reunification of Korea took place. An appeal to the entire Korean nation was adopted.

In addition, international meetings to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation were held under the joint auspices of the preparatory committees for celebration of the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation formed in different countries and regions of the world and the Korean Committee for Solidarity with the World People.

On August 16 the Korean people met the participants in the international solidarity events at Yanggakdo Hotel. The meeting brought together delegations of friendship and solidarity organizations in several countries and regions and their members, figures from international bodies, those who have witnessed the infringements upon human rights by the US and its vassal forces and experts in human rights issue.

The Korean Committee for Solidarity with the World People gave a banquet in honour of the participants in the international solidarity events at Okryu restaurant.

Alexander Minayev, charg`e d'affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation to the DPRK, also gave a banquet at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club.

A celebration meeting of workers and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea was held and a performance of winners of the vocal solo and instrument contest of officials and members of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea was also given.

There were colourful performances including revolutionary drama Celebrations and circus shows in the theatres of Pyongyang and local areas. A national inventions and new technologies exhibition was held in celebration of the 70th anniversaries of the WPK and Korea’s liberation.

The DPRK reset its standard time in the run-up to the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, according to a decree of its Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly.

The new standard time which came into effect on August 15 is based on 127 degrees 30 minutes east longitude (current time minus 30 minutes).

In the evening of August 15 a firework display took place in Pyongyang.

The Korean youth and students across the country held dancing parties.
