The Chief of Defence Forces Col. Lt. Samson Mwathethe has said the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will remain in Somalia to continue battling Al Shabaab under AMISOM forces until Kenya is secure.
Mwathethe said the fight against Somali militant group Al Shabaab will go on until the country’s borders are secure.

In an interview with Kenya’s NTV in Kismayu, Somalia, Mwathethe likened the Al Shabaab to a snake that needs to be eradicated.

The KDF boss further appealed for cooperation from Kenyans to flush out any militants hiding in their midst as they change tact following pressure from Kenyan forces.

Meanwhile,  Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has asked the security forces to remain vigilant to ward off any potential terror attacks.

Nkaissery, who was in Lamu, said the terror group Al Shabaab  is seemingly split with a splinter faction pledging allegiance to Islamic State, while another remains loyal to Shabaab and might strike in desperation.

The Interior CS said the division was a sign that the terrorists can be defeated by the KDF and other security forces that have joined the war against terror.

The CS urged Kenyans to remain vigilant while at the same time asking security forces not to relent on the war since the terror group was now breaking into smaller factions.
